ARTIST STATEMENT
A modern aesthetic, invoking a bohemian , primitive style.
“I’ve always been drawn to works of art that have an immediacy of reference to the handmade gesture.
These paintings are an ongoing study, in which the final pieces are a result of myself trying to harness, yet expose, a visceral energy of whimsical, irregular, and meditative line drawing.
The sporadic and spontaneous nature that is associated with a “scribble” or “squiggle” , is something that I find as a direct relation to how I live my life.
At times lost in a complicated, tangled mess, only to find that slow, conscious, methodical movements will help you find your direction.
Occasionally, untraditional materials like coffee, aspects inspired by “Art-Brut”, and organic elements that resemble mid-century modern aesthetics, are also worked into my compositions to facilitate and compliment the meditative experience of painting itself.”
